Shoppers lose out

SEVERAL practices unfair to shoppers have been registered in Slovakia.

SEVERAL practices unfair to shoppers have been registered in Slovakia.

“Reduced action prices, which are on products in the shop, often are not in harmony with those counted at the cashier,” Miroslav Tulák, the executive director of the Association of Slovak Consumers (ZSS) told the TASR newswire. “These are often higher, which the consumer, when making a bigger purchase, finds out only at home or does not realise the difference at all.”

Tulák also pointed to providing incorrect information; a bad translation can also be a reason.

Customers can come across false information about characteristics of the product or services.

“They occur especially on websites offering discounts,” said Tulák, adding that this especially involves various sightseeing flights, rides on race tracks and similar services, misleading information about the category of hotels and related quality of accommodation, catering and services. In loan contracts it is necessary to pay attention to the annual percentage rate of costs.

“There are cases where it is not calculated correctly,” said Tulák.

Píšem or pišám?

"Do ľava," (to the left) I yelled, "Nie, do prava" (no, to the right), I gasped. "Dolšie," I screamed. "Nie, nie, horšie..." My Slovak girlfriend collapsed in laughter. Was it something I said?
